About SproutFaith

SproutFaith is a library of preparation notes for small group leaders, book by book. It is written by Tim Roberts, a believer who has led small groups and Bible studies for years.

It is not a worksheet or a study guide. It is a leader’s notes to work with through the week as you prepare for group night: where the passage gets hard, what the text and its history say, and how to host the conversation.

Who writes the notes

I’m Tim Roberts. I’m not a pastor, and I don’t hold ministry or theology credentials. I’m a believer who has led small groups and Bible studies for years, and I know how it feels to walk into group night under-prepared. SproutFaith is the preparation I wanted for myself.

Because I’m not a credentialed expert, I show my sources, so you can check my work instead of taking my word for it.

How the notes are made

Every note is written by a person. Each one names the sources it draws on, such as early church writers and modern commentaries, so you can look them up yourself.

The notes follow the three steps on the Method page: find the Pivot, stay honest about the history, and prepare to lead the room.

Where SproutFaith stands

SproutFaith doesn’t pick a side between traditions. Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Christians are all part of one church, the “catholic” (meaning universal) church of the creeds, including Christians I disagree with.

Many of the things traditions disagree about grew up over centuries, through councils, reformers and local custom. The notes say where an idea came from and then let the passage speak, so you can weigh it for yourself and be honest about it with your group.

Questions people ask

What is SproutFaith?

A library of preparation notes for small group leaders, book by book. Each note helps a leader get ready for group night: where the passage gets hard, what history and early readers add, and how to guide the conversation.

Who writes the notes?

Tim Roberts. He is a believer who has led small groups and Bible studies for years. He is not a pastor or a credentialed theologian, so each note names its sources and you can check them.

Do I need training to use the SproutFaith notes?

No. The notes are written for ordinary small group leaders and volunteers, in plain language without the jargon.

Which tradition does SproutFaith follow?

None in particular. It treats Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Christians as one church, and it says where each tradition’s ideas came from instead of telling you who is right.

How do I report a mistake in a note?

Email hello@sproutfaith.com with the book, the session and what you think is wrong. Tim will look into it and correct anything that is.
